Session Aims & Highlights (2022-01-25)

Main aims

1. Targets.  Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets & deep sky targets as allowed by time & conditions.
2. AstroMain.  Test bug fixes and enhancements associated with AstroMain 3.48.23, 3.48.24 (& 3.48.25)
    (in particular test out the addition of individual frame start/ends on guiding chart / history graphs including annotation of filter names)

Highlights

•  AstroMain.  No significant issues with AstroMain 3.48.24 program, some teething issues with new code added to guiding charts, but fixed in session (3.48.25)
•  Dome/Shutter. Dome handled 12 open/close cycles without any issue during course of session (interrupted by frequent cloud), and there were no dome rotation issues.
•  Cloud. Session interrupted by frequent cloud. Several targets affected by cloud & bad guiding.

Notes:

• .Significant interruptions from cloud. Dome opened and closed 12 times.

• Unable to fully analyse images from folder 'Comet_110P_Hartley 3x3 60s C' (post session analysis). Whilst combined image would link ok on a starfield with 110/P Hartley, crosshair cordinates didn't seem to match the position of assumed comet in image, and Building Heading/Build Title routines reported details for 100P/Hartley instead of 110P/Hartley.  Problem relates back to an original issue inputting the two targets.  Investigating the Fits files show a TARGETID of 2101. This corresponds to target 100P/Hartley in the targets database and explains why build target/build title were producing the wrong information.   Fits file headers modified to show TARGETID of 2102 which is the id that corresponds with 110P/Hartley in the Targets Database.

Small Defects

• New Code to record positions of individual image frames on Guiding Chart / History Graph has several teething issues . Issues are 1) Av. RMS scores are being written for VRVR images  when they shouldn't  2) Cross-hatching between frames is being drawn at the incorrect Y position, 3) Cross-hatching between image sets is being drawn at incorrect Y position. 4) Filters names are not being written for VVRR sets (filter names are only being drawn of VRVR sets). Examples : Guide Run 9 (NV Ori), Guide Run 14 (RR Tau).  Partly fixed in-session with AstroMain 3.48.25 and installed on observatory computer at 00:40.   Some issues/teething issues may remain. Fully fixed in AstroMain 3.48.26.

• Final 'CloseOut Image' call for a 2 x VR set draws the filter name above 'Set 2' . Probably happened because UseGraphSets  get changed by following image. Probably don't need close if. Fixed with a workaround. Need a wider review/better code.

• Extend ImageCloseOut to grBot+28 is drawn in incorrect position when switching between first and second history graph and far right hatching is a short hatch region rather than long hatch region. When Closing SubImage need logic recognise if it is a final subimage or not.

• A four (4.0) second delay is being added between Main Frames on Development Computer (is this simply the prior CCDSoft setting) or is it being assigned by the AstroMain program.

Continuous Improvement

• Make further tweaks to the presentation of data on Guiding Chart History Graphs.  Tweaks 1) shorten the orange Lost Star Line 2). Length the vertical line between FrameSets Av. 3) modified position and thickness of cross-hatched, 'non recording' intervals, 4) RMS scores are being written for VRVR images  when they shouldn't  2) Cross-hatching between frames is being drawn at the incorrect Y position, 3) Cross-hatching between image sets is being drawn at incorrect Y position. 4) Filters names are not being written for VVRR sets (filter names are only being drawn of VRVR sets). Examples : Guide Run 9 (NV Ori), Guide Run 14 (RR Tau).  Partly fixed in-session with installation of AstroMain 3.48.25 on Observatory Computer at 00:40.   Some issues/teething issues may remain.

• Unnecessary (bound to fail) Cam2 link attempts should be skipped.  When Linking Cam2 Reference image (LinkCam2GuideFrame()  / LinkImageCam2() routine ) and there are too few stars (SmartStarCount 0) a link attempt is made of each catalog mode (UCA/USNO*), (GSC*), (UCA/USNO), (GSC) ). Attempts should skipped over if nStars <= 4. Just need to figure out best approach to achieve this without breaking the PlateSolving routine.   Implemented in PlateSolveImage() so works across both Cam1 and Cam2.

• Reduce/Optimise delay after AdjustLockPosition to 15s. Reduce waiting period after chaning AdjustLock Position from xs to 15s.
