Session Aims & Highlights (2022-03-01)

Main aims

1. Targets.  Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets & deep sky targets as allowed by time & conditions.
2. AstroMain.  Check bug fixes and new improvements in AstroMain 3.50.7.

• PHD2 suddenly closed (or silently crashed) whilst taking images of Target 10/36 (UGC 3457) . At around 21:32 (during Frame 3/5) PHD2 was noticed to have closed some where between start of guiding (21:23) and start of first frame (21:27) . Issue was quickly resolved in-session by restarting PHD2 application and restarting PHD2 client services.  Last response from PHD2 server was at 21:23:59.  And it is presumed that PHD2 application stopped at this time.  There is specific indication that PHD2 crashed (this is rarey or never seen).  It is assumed that the application was un-intentionally and unknowingly closed by the user clicking the program's X button whilst conducting a live demonstration using Zoom and remote server connection.

• Align Frames operation held up by CCDSoft dialog indicating that file couldn't be aligning and requesting user confirmation to continue. (Post Session). Problem seems to be caused by presence of .wcs and .ini file pair (produced from a ASTAP Plate solution attempt). Prehaps these files types should be searched for and deleted before initiating an image alignment operation.  Resolved by continuing alignment and deleting the two non-FITS files concerned.  Issue understood. Since this issue doesn't commonly occur it is proposed to close this as a minor issue ticket and handle it via a separate continuous improvement ticket.

Small Defects

• None

• Delete .wcs & .ini files in an Object's ImageSet / Reduced folder prior to performing a Align Frames operation.  Align Frames operation for 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann was seemingly held up the presence of .wcs and .ini file pair (produced from a ASTAP Plate solution attempt). Presence of files seemed to caused CCDSoft to put up a dialog indicating that file couldn't be aligning and requesting user confirmation to continue.
