Session Aims & Highlights (2022-11-28)

Main aims

1. 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann. Acquire further images of 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann, as followup to images taken in last three sessions (S1061 - S1063) . Continue to look out for expanding coma following recent 4 mag outburst
2. Targets.  Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets & deep sky targets as allowed by sky conditions.
3. AstroMain.  Check new AstroMain version (3.58.6) for any issues introduced by several recent changes, bug fixes and additions.

Highlights

• 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann.  Images acquired
• Targets. 37 out of 41 planned targets were fully completed, 1 was partially completed. 2 others targets were replaced by 4 ToO targets that were added during the session (29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann, C/2021 Y1 (ATLAS), 61P/Shajn-Schaldach & Mars) which were each fully acquired.
• Guiding. Very good guiding performance, sky conditions ideal.

• A Report Line appears in Session Report file above the new ReportSubTitleLite() title "Reference Frame".  The Reference Frame sub title was added to report in AstroMain 3.58.6, but was added with a preceeding ReportLine which immediately was noted as an unwanted feature.   ReportLine above the "Reference Frame" subtitle removed in AstroMain 3.58.7.  Also post-session the ReportLine above each "Reference Frame" subtitle was removed from S1064 report file in a text editor (TextPad 4).

• Target Image Form not being closed when changing Program mode from Analysis to Reduction.

• ObsOverseer reported that the ObsManager was frozen in 'Closing Stage 11 (Close Night Services)' for 92s (06:48). At the same time ObsOverseer reported that the TheSky6ScopeMonitor was also frozen. Both released at around the same time. ObsManager should 'never' freeze, as it prevents ObsManager from carrying out any other important actions. If there is a potential for CloseNightServices to lock up in this way it should be spawned to a thread and its status monitored.   Unclear why StopNightObsrevatoryServices() froze.  It could be with one of the following subroutines :  Scope.Disconnect(), StopPHD2(),  ShCap.StopService(), UpdateSynopsisFields().
  ObsManager now calls StopNightObsrevatoryServicesByThread() and proceeds to a new Closing Stage 12 and checks in during each loop whether bStoppingNightServices has turned to False ( NightServices have Stopped) or MinutesSince(StopNightServicesTime) > 4 (timeout has occured).

• Post-Session Analysis of S1064 suggests AT2022vry lies at image coords -219.6, -91.7, ie outside of FOV whilst Realtime JPG Pictures show it clearly inside FOV. This is show-stopper issue for final analysis picture creation for session web page.  Later Analysis/Image Link using AstroMain 3.67.1 worked ok.  Unsure what caused the original issue, but it works now and the ticket is therefore closed.
  Resolved/Closed 2024-03-29 (AstroMain 3.67.1)

• Increase the number of GA generations for building the night's Observing Plan from 40 to 50. Convergence plot from the S1064 session shows Overall score increasing between 35 and 40 generations, rather than being flat. This suggest that for the cost of a small amount of time, there would seem to be a benefit in allowing the GA Schedular to continue to find a slightly better, more optimised Plan.  If future sessions don't show this benefit it can always be rolled back to the previous 40 generations value.

• Log file to record when TheSky6 Scope is disconnected.   Log file to record  a 'Stop   TheSkyScope   Ok | Service stopped' message when TheSky6 scope is disconnected.  There are 10 locations in the AstroMain were TheSky.DisconnectTelescope is used.
