Session Aims & Highlights (2026-10-16)

Main aims

1. Targets.  Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets & deep sky targets as allowed by sky conditions.
2. Scorecard. Check new Scordcard generation in AstroWeather 1.33.1 and its communication and use in AstroMain 3.84.11 and AstroGuard 1.13.2

• Five instances where AllSky Star & Synopsis data has been inactive for more than 5 mins (21:49 - 01:14). There were 5 raised AllSky/Synopsis alerts during the session with the message "AllSky Star & Synopsis data has been inactive for more than 5 mins" at 21:49, 22:58, 00:47, 00:52, 01:03  These were all associated with testing new AstroWeather versions that are using new Scorecard / AllSky Services.  The alerts were not totally unexepected given the testing activity (multiple AstroWeather restarts for updated software and testing with/without dummy AllSky data.  The length of the reported outages times of 14.1, 10.2, 5.2, 10.1 &10.1 mins was surprisingly long. Issue closed.

• AstroWeather unable to fully restart ObsEnv Service. AstroWeather 1.33 / 1.33.1 have received quite a lot of updates, and whilst testing it is noticed that the ObsEnv can't be fully restarted. Debugging shows that after being restarted the ObsEnv Service immediately exits due to an exception from myTcpListener.Start().  Fixed in AstroWeather 1.33.2, when the ObsEnv is stopped it now stops the myTcpListener before it exits , leaving the Service free for any following restart. .

• New GuideQualityChart not moved into local web folder by AstroMove's  'Copy Session Files to Richweb2' facility.  AstroMove has a button function to move specific session files to the 'images' folder in the local richweb2 web site folders. The routine needs to be extended to include the new GuideQualityChart, at present the file has to be manually copied in. Implemented in AstroMove 1.19.2.

• AstroMove still tries to copy files from Laptop7 even though the 'Using Laptop9' checkbox is checked. A new facility was added to AstroMove 1.19.1 to allow Laptop9 to be referenced as the AllSky/Weather Computer in place of the normal Laptop7 which is currently out of action.  To be fixed in AstroMove 1.19.2.

• AstroWeather's new Scorecard is showing column 2 (Light) as 'V.Dark' with a green flag whilst there is no AllSky Data.  AstroWeather 1.33 / 1.33.1 have received quite a lot of updates including introduction of Scorecard Server and Chart production and a AllSKky Listener. It is noticed the Scorcard describes the AllSky Light column (column2) as being 'V.Dark' with a green flag even though there is no AllSky data.  The column shown be given a 'No Data' / white flag.  Fixed in AstroWeather 1.33.3.

• AstroWeather's new Scorecard is showing 'CAN OPEN' when Clarity is only 16 and Critical. A new Scorecard Service has been added to AstroWeather 1.33 / 1.33.1, based on a total refactoring of legacy code from AstroAllSky.  Even though Cloud Column is flagged as Critical with CloudSensor Clarity value of only 16 the scorecard nevertheless flag the Shutter Safety as "CAN OPEN" . At the same time attempting to open the dome in AstroMain correctly gives the message "Dome can not be opened at this time due to Cloud". Fixed in AstroWeather 1.33.3.

• Panel Captions on AstroWeather's Data tab flicker when text boxes are updated. The 5 panels on the Data tab are of myGroupBox type which inherent from Window.Forms.GroupBox.  When the panel is updated the group box's Caption (text) momentarily goes blank before being redrawn with the correct caption  Fixed attempted in AstroWeather 1.33.3 for issue persists.  Issue is associated the painting of the 'myGroupBox' component.
   To fix 2026-10-17 (AstroWeather 1.33.3)

Continuous Improvement

• Look into the following teething issues with new version of AstroWeather. AstroWeather 1.33 / 1.33.1 have received quite a lot of updates including introduction of Scorecard Server and Chart production and a AllSKky Listener. This is new code based on legacy code from AstroAllSky. There are a number of minor fixes and improvements needed:
   - Astroguard not receiving/using Scorecard Data
 - ObsEnv Service not able to be restarted
 - AstroWeather on Development Computer not receiving ObsEnv records from Observatory Computer
    width of the text box. Implemented in AstroWeather 1.33.3
 - Astroguard not receiving/using Scorecard Data
 - Replace "|" by ", " in "Phase | Alt"
 - Replace 'Unknown" in data source age field by "-"
 - Add "OpenWeather" as data source for "Rain Forecast" column.
 - Replace AllSkyCam, NorthCam" by "AllSky, NorthCam" in Clouds (Stars Column)
 - Change Column 6 title from 'Clouds' to 'Stars'
 - Investigate why there is no 'Other Text' plotting
 - Investigate why there are secondary Value Change arrows for the 'Sun' and 'Cloud' columns
 - Investigate incorrect "CAN OPEN" indicator
 - Observing Potential persistentally showing "BAD" even though nighttime condtions were good enough for observing

• Pull 'Weather' and 'Cloud Sensor' Services as two new separate class objects. Currently in AstroWeather 1.33.3 'Weather' and 'Cloud Sensor' Services are handled within Main Form routines due to historical / legacy reasons.  To ease maintainance routines should be extracted and place in tow new class objects. To be done in AstroWeather 1.34.

• Shorten the logging of 'Connection was forcibly closed by the remote host' exceptions.  The logging of  'Connection was forcibly closed by the remote host' exceptions occupies two lines. Since this is a known exception, it is proposed to replaced the regular exception logging in TServiceBase.HandleWorkerException () by further customised logging that occupies a single line. It is also proposed to use a ServiceBase flag called 'bConnectionForciblyClosed'  and raise it when a connection was forcibly closed, and then add code to TListenerBase.WorekerLoop' to write an '(ok)' log message when a message is again processed ok and lower the flag.  Sensor' Services as two new separate class objects. Currently in AstroWeather 1.33.3 'Weather' and 'Cloud Sensor' Services are handled within Main Form routines due to historical / legacy reasons.  To ease maintainance routines should be extracted and place in tow new class objects. Implemented in AstroMain 3.84.14 New TCP Logic being implemented in AstroWeather & AstroMain should cure the problem of forcibly closed by the remote host' exceptions.
