Gallery of "Rose Compact Galaxy Groups" imaged with my 12" LX200 telescope and ST-10XME Camera (2019-2020+)
Project was inspired by Alvin Huey's book "The Rose Catalogue of Compact Galaxies" (www.faintfuzzies.com) based on the Rose Catalogue of Ring Galaxies created by Dr James A. Rose in his late graduate-early doctoral days back in the 1970's. In 1976/77 Dr Rose submitted a paper titled "A Survey of Compact Groups of Galaxies" to the Astrophysical Journal. Galaxies groups were selected from regions with galactic latitude greater than 55° to avoid galactic absorption and to minimize the number of foreground stars.
Rose 1 to 33 are Northern Groups and lie in a restricted region RA 10° 48' to 15° 12' , Dec -03° 10' to 37° 27'
Rose 34 to 38 are Southern Groups and are never visible from my observatory in UK.The Rose compact galaxy groups are considered to be more compact than the Hickson and Shakhbazian groups.
Some of the Rose groups (e.g. Rose 2, 27, 28, 30, 31 & 33) are so tight that it is very difficult to distinguish individual members.
