Session Aims & Highlights (2022-03-21)

Main aims

1. Targets.  Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets & deep sky targets as allowed by time & conditions.

Highlights

•  Targets.  Very few target acquired due to poor sky conditions
•  Cloud/Poor Transparency.  Although sky wasn't completely overcast, haze and thin cloud combined to produce poor sky conditions, which was made worse by bright moonlit sky. Session suspended after less than one hour due to insufficient AllSky Stars Count.

• Cropped Image Picture of AT2022eqj  in M31 not centered on transient but is centered on M31 (post session analysis). Behaviour is as per design where it is normal to centre image un the host galaxy and show the cross-hairs at the offset position of the transient. However this isn't the behaviour required in case of M31 where the transient typically has a fairly large offset from M31 centre. Resolved by manually copying the Cross-Hairs X/Y to CropCentre X/Y.   Separate continuous improvement ticket raised to add a button routine to copy Cross-Hairs X/Y coordinates to CropCentre X/Y.

• Add button routine to copy Cross-Hairs X/Y to CropCentre X/Y (Analysis/CreateImages Tab).  During image preparation for AT2022eqj in M31 it was found that the default cropped picture is not centered on the transient but is centered on M31's bright nucleus. Behaviour is as per design where it is normal to centre the image on the host galaxy and show the cross-hairs at the offset position of the transient. However this isn't the behaviour required in the case of M31 where the transient typically has a fairly large offset from M31centre. Added button + routine to transfer cross-hairs x/y to CropCentre X/Y, including a check on crop centre to ensure that the cropped area lies within the main image FOV.
